Backyard Games Ideas
There are so many things to do in your own backyard during warm weather months. Get creative! It’s a great time to bring the whole family together to have fun playing outdoor games.
If you have plenty of space, why not consider putting up a net to play badminton or volleyball all summer long? Croquet, bocce ball, or lawn darts are great fun. Create a planned space for playing horseshoes. Or build a cornhole (bean-bag toss) board, another great game that goes over well with people of all ages.
Plan a neighborhood picnic in your backyard and have everyone bring a side dish. Number each dish starting with one, two, and so on. Then have everyone vote on their favorite. Have a fun prize ready for the winner. You can also have an eating contest using something like watermelon or hotdogs. This can be great fun.
If you have many young children that like digging in the dirt, bury pennies (or silver coins) in the dirt when they are not watching and then have them dig ‘em up. They will be thrilled with their shiny rewards.
If you have a pool, make up games to play in the water instead of simply swimming. Water balloons always build fun and laughter on a hot summer day. Start out by having a water balloon tossing contest. And eventually, end with a water balloon fight.
Planning and participating in backyard games brings people together for fun and relaxation. It’s a healthy way to breathe in the fresh outdoor air and take time away from today’s modern technologies. Have fun!
